Two weeks ago I dug my first barber quarter at this spot in western Washington. I went back today and o my gosh. 15 feet from the barber. I still can't believe this. An 1882 s morgan dollar. I am so thankful for a beutiful bucket lister.

Huge Congrats! Now get back there because something happened there of great interest to any detectorist.

That sure is a beaut! I sure wish I could find one. You must be feeling like you're on top of the world :laughing7:

That is an amazing find :) CONGRATULATIONS !!!

That's an interesting find. Silver should come out of the ground and be silver colored.

I also noticed that there appears to be rust on it, which makes me think this is not a sliver Morgan at all but possibly a counterfeit.

Congrats on a rare find !

Pure awesomeness! Real or counterfeit, its an outstanding find. Big Congrats!!!

Welcome to the silver dollar club! The soil was very harsh to the old gal. Some serious patina.

Silver turns black when it reacts with sulfur in the air or the ground. If an iron object is touching a silver object, the iron rust can adhere to the silver. So darkening and rust can happen to authentic silver coins. I suspect silver dollars are seldom found because they are so big that dropping them would make a noise and finding a dropped one immediately would be quite easy. Congratulations on yours!
