Was out searching some of my pasture again today and finally found an old minie ball. It’s a 3 ringer in poor condition but I can still make out the rings. Hollow core with no star. I believe it’s a .58 cal but it’s not round anymore so it’s hard to tell for sure. Possibly got hit by a plow. Need to get a micrometer on it next.

Also found an old iron nail/pin and a round grommet of some sort I think. Not too sure on that one.

Excellent finds! I believe the grommet-looking thing is part of the slide mechanism from an old parasol, probably from the same era as the minie ball. Congrats!

I did a quick search on parasols. I had no idea what that even was. But I found this picture which helps confirm what you thought. Thanks for the reply!

Always great to find your first minnie. I found mine is a field in N.C. but then got showed up by my wife who found a long, complete Indian spearpoint from the same field. Go figure.

Congrat's on your first Minnie' ball. May this be the first of many. My first Minnie ball was a carved Williams Cleaner bullet. The lead ball was chopped in half as if cut with a saw. You will always remember your first bullet. Well Done.

You absolutely will remember that first one.

Mine was a 3 ringer that came out of the wall of a ravine. It was shaped like a flattened banana from whatever it made contact with.

Keep looking OP, that ain’t the only one!
