My first Merc.

Today it was raining off and on pretty much all day long w/ 20 min. of sunshine breaking through here and there,I wanted to get some detecting in even if it were only a half hour at a time between the showers. Suffering from cabin fever I drove down to put some gas in the car and then decided to head for the spot I wanted to detect,sit there until there was a break in the weather. After about a full CD worth of tunes the sun came out giving me the opportunity to get MDing..luckily I was out there for at least an hour and that's all that was needed to make for a good day and me a happy guy. I ended up finding $4.49 in clad(mostly quarters)....a 1945 wheatie....a few bobbles....and a first for me the 1928 Mercury dime(pictured below) I was so stoked when I saw it giddy almost. I just scratched the surface of this area,and theres a whole lot more ground to cover.
I'm trying to build up my finds before posting them but every now and then there is that find you just have to post.............sorry for the pics looking kinda gold I cant get color adjusted right on webcam

Yea it is at first it looked like a 1920 until i got home and rinsed it off,but I'm not complaining lol.going back there tomorrow theres gotta be more than just this one...a BARBER maybe.

As I was detecting a guy walks up to me,and asked me what i was finding..showed him my days haul(nothing much)..about a second or two later i got a signal which was the Merc. The guy was amazed and started telling me some history as well as some other sites i may want to look,He told me the area i was searching(on Oneida lake) use to be a spot where steamboats picked people up in the 1800's then points me to an open spot where he said that was where one of the 1st 1800's hotels in the area once stood. he was a wealth of history and invited me to stop by if i ever wanted to learn more history...tomorrow is suppose to be a better day I'm definitely getting out.

No kidding,the more i use it ...the better the finds are getting,I'd have to say I'm getting the detecting ear..i don't pay much attention to the read out anymore(think it registered as a quarter)maybe the 10cent mark not sure but when i hear the tone i know its gonna be something wilver worthy lol.
