I went out today with Bilt46 & MikeWaz and these are my finds!!! I made a video which includes all of the finds and it will be loaded on Monday pm and better pix when I get a chance to clean up my finds.
I found:

Large Cent (I can't see a date but I need to clean it but its almost smooth on the front),
1891 IH (Greene)
1956d Wheatie
2 Buffalo Nickels (1 is dateless and the other is a 1936)
some nickels from the 40's-1969
a War Nickel
a cuff button (I think Civil War era found in the same place as the LC)
3 religious charms

enjoy.

Click the "HQ" once it starts to see the higher quality video

Re: My first LARGE CENT!!!!!!!

When I heard "through the grapevine" that you found a large cent, my heart started pumping
then I smiled and thought. . . couldn't happen to a nicer guy

Everything that I found today is trivial compared to your find

Nice!
Mark

Re: My first LARGE CENT!!!!!!!

Oh Man! You musta freaked seeing that come out. I thought you were gonna post that you found it in a roll of quarters. You guys have found "da spot". Hit it hard and when you're done with it, lets have a group spring hunt there. Congrats on all the other great finds too! What a haul!!!

Re: My first LARGE CENT!!!!!!!

Litefire,

It was found in the most unlikely place...trust me, you've been there before...hush hush!

Kermit, if I could find a way to get that message you sent me on the forum, I would, lol! You earned that large cent. Way to go bud.

Now lay off the finds, will ya? Save some for the rest of us! lol jk.

Re: My first LARGE CENT!!!!!!!

Really nice haul!
Congrats on the large cent.

I hope to be able to get out to dig before the grass gets too high...

Re: My first LARGE CENT!!!!!!!

Man I am not surprised, you are the MD'er of the now! You've been steadily knocking those doors down on an almost monthly basis. Is it too much to speak the "G" word yet?

Congrats and keep at it!

Re: My first LARGE CENT!!!!!!!

AWESOME DAY!!! Definetly a day in the books you`ll never forget!!! Keep up the good work! Can`t wait to see the video- BOLTS

Re: My first LARGE CENT!!!!!!!

Well I let the LC, IH & the cuff button soak over night and here is what they look like. The LC is toasted but it is a Matron LC 1816-1839. The way I determined this is because on the reverse it has a line under the EN in Cents (see last pix or look at your red book and you will see that the Braided Hair LC's don't have this feature). The button decintergrated in the water and the back fell off (its in 2 seperate pieces now) I put some olive oil on them to try and stop the decomposition.

Re: My first LARGE CENT!!!!!!! Updated with new pix - scroll down to see.

Great finds, especially on the large cent. They are pretty hard to find in Illinois. Good job!

Re: My first LARGE CENT!!!!!!! Updated with new pix - scroll down to see.

I've got to post again. Man, what a great find! And an older type of LG too. I thought that maybe it was borderline large cent/flying eagle, since there wasn't as much activity back in the early 19th century as there was in the late 19th century. Trust me, I am on cloud 9 with you brother.

This year is going to be great. I have a feeling that now that you've got a better grip on the setting of your SE, you'll be pulling the oldies out even in the summer, out of the woods. I might as well hang up the White's! lol.

Awesome LG...and hey, was the IH near there too?? I never dug an IH there.

Re: My first LARGE CENT!!!!!!! Updated with new pix - scroll down to see.

I was hoping you'd find a denomination on the back but it's all good! Hot peroxide treatment might help?

Re: My first LARGE CENT!!!!!!! Updated with new pix - scroll down to see.

Definitely a Matron Head,,,you can tell by the larger size font of the "A" in America.
What a find!

Re: My first LARGE CENT!!!!!!! Updated with new pix - scroll down to see.

Congratulations!!! That's awesome. It gives hope to the rest of us. That's an oldie for Illinois for sure.

I just realized, that this is the first penny grand slam I've seen on this forum. I know you found a memorial because you told me on the phone.

Memorial, wheat, IH, large cent...congratulations!
