Hunted the beaches In Mississippi today, tide was running 2 ft above normal and the waves were more than I wanted fight. I decided to hunt from the edge of the water to the last high tide line. Was getting the usual light beach trash along with the occasional clad coin when I had a 23 on the nox and thought it?s a dime or a copper penny. I dug down about 8 inches and rinsed the sand out of the scoop, I took the coin out and thought it was a token. I rubbed my thumb across the back and saw one cent! I couldn?t believe I found my first large cent, and when I turned it over I could read the date, 1845. I went back to check my hole before I filled it in and got a 28/29 signal next to where I just dug the large cent. The target was deep, more than 12 inches. Once I had the target in my scoop I rinsed it and out popped another, this one was a little more worn but I could still read the date, 1847.
A little farther down the beach I found an old bullet which I?m hoping someone can help identify. I did find some pieces of old brick in the water so I?m guessing that there was house there at one time.
