My first Large Cent 1849

This was my first large cent. You should have been there to see my reaction. I had no idea what it was. I never looked that far back in my red book. It was still early in my detecting career. I have to admit the coin was cleaned by me. At that time 12 Years old my thoughts were the better the shine, the more it must be worth. Now I run warm water over the coin and what comes off comes off, and it goes into a 2X2. I'll keep posting more pics from my past finds. Again this was from washington Co. PA

What a beauty!!! I've only dug 4 of them..but i know the feeling when finding one..
 

That cleaned up just fine. It is ok to clean dug coins using proper methods. I soak mine in hot hydrogen peroxide, and then very gently clean with a QTip.

I have yet to find a braided hair variety. Mine have all been Coronets and Draped Busts.

My first Large Cent was an 1847...not as nice as yours but still sits proudly in my display case. Nice luster on yours.
