Ok, so it isn't much of a looker, and it is corroded shut, but I was still happy to have my first knife.

Shortly after though, I had a very nice gentleman come up and ruin my day... Based on the amount of older coins (no silver, but a fair amount of 60's and 70's change), a 90 year old fishing lure, some 70 year old shotgun shells and a TON of the old school pull tabs, I was kinda hoping that I was hunting virgin grounds, and might be lucky and find some gold or silver as a result. Well, he saw I was detecting and asked if I had any luck, and then said he used to do pretty good out here 30 years ago... :BangHead: He was very nice, and even offered some tips on where he and his buddy had luck, but it just kinda ruined hopes for finding something old/nice there. I know it can still happen though.

I would not let it bother me on bit about the place having been hunted, any obvious places that are easy to access will have been hunted before. And congrats on the first knife, many more to come I am sure. I try to hunt places that aren't necessarily old but will have enough use to self replenish those are the main types of place to hunt for me ! I do some field hunting in the fall or early spring but finding goodies in those is difficult also.

The technology 30 years ago wasn't what it is today so your machine might find the goodies they missed.

Prehunted ground?.......I say game on, new technology will help ya get what was missed

That place sounds like its still full of targets..I would hit that place good....I still find stuff at my own "Hunted Out" spots

We pull silver from every park
In pittsburgh daily. And these parks are hunted every day of the week since detectors were invented. No spot is ever hunted out. Keep at it

The other guys are right. If it was not hunted with a modern machine, then there could still be good targets that are deep (8" or deeper) or co located with trash. I have found good stuff at schools, which have been hunted for years, by everybody. The oldsters laughed at me... until I pulled a Franklin and a Walker from an old school. They aint laughin' no more. Keep the faith, and swing the coil low and slow. GL&HH.

That's part of what I'm hoping for. But I'm gonna need to get a better machine first... Right now i'm just using a Titan 1000XD (a relabeled BH Discovery 1000). It isn't a bad machine, but I have yet to dig anything other than a pop can deeper than 4", in part because I can't turn the sensitivity to the highest of four settings with out a LOT of falsing, so I'm stuck at 75%. I'm hping Santa will be nice and bring me an XLT or something along those lines. Then I will have to go back over and hope for more goodies. For no I just look at it as cleaning out the clad and trash
