Today I went to an Old Church built in 1877 here in Missouri. I dug a few signals and kept getting skunked. My machine would first read 4" and then after clearing the hole it would read 6" and then a tree root after clearing both sides of the tree root. NOTHING. I did this for about 30 min and on my fourth hole I found a 1903 Indian Cent with no pitting or corrosion. It has a light green patina and my heart started racing after that!! It is my oldest coin to date. I also found a million old holes in the side yard that other people before me has probably got the good stuff out. I also had another question. There is a sidewalk adjacent to the church that is mostly overgrown with grass and weeds. It is made out of old paver bricks. I kept getting a strong dime reading in the crack but I didn't have a knife to try and wedge it out. What else could I do? Thanks Newbie Tom

I will post pictures of my finds here tommarrow. :)

Can anyone tell me what the bullet looking thing is. I have no idea!! I found it at 8", I also found an old button 6" and a church token with a nice prayer on it. I bet it's a sign from god saying go dig more holes at my church!! ;D j/k

Congratulations on your first Indian Head. Those are always cool to find. Especially the first one. It's in great shape too!

I think the bullet thing is probably part of an old drafting tool or a precision knife?

Does it have threads inside?

I think it still needs a little better cleaning. I wanted to know if it is wrong to remove a brick to check for the coin and then put it back after im done?

my 250 does the same thing-strong signal, I start digging, and then, nothing..what's up with that?

Congrats on your finds. Love that IH. A lot of coins are found hidden under roots, so it's great that you kept at it & didn't give up.
Sorry to hear the previous detectors didn't cover their holes when they finished digging. Not cool.
As far as pulling up a brick or two, can you ask whoever owns the property that gave you permission to MD?
I just found a 1935 Buffalo nickel under a concrete paver two days ago, so it's definitely worth looking under the bricks.
As far as the bullet looking piece, I agree with Ridley. I think it's part of an X-Acto knife.
Good luck,
MM

Nice Indian!! If the brick is surrounded, you need two pry bars// ;D
