Greetings all!
I just signed up for this site and boy am I happy I did! There is terrific information all throughout, not to mention INSPIRATION!
I took the family to a couple local banks yesterday to see what we could find on our "virgin voyage." Being the almost first of the month, the banks were pretty packed. I went to one bank in the historic section of Lorain, Ohio, but they were closed on saturday. While driving away we noticed a 5/3rd bank that was open still. I said what the heck and went in. They had 2 CWR's and from the sound of the teller referring to her station as "her drawer," I am assuming that this was a floater or at least the teller that works at that station was off.
I grabbed all the loose halves they had ($24 worth) and SCORED!
I think I got a teller stash including: 2 Franklins, 6 Kennedy (40%), 1972 AU, and 2007 Proof!
I was so pumped to find this on my first outing, but quickly realized that it was definitely beginners luck.
Went on to the next local bank and purchased $150 BWR's and got Nuthin! I will be hunting very soon as my Mom is a teller at a bank and will return to their coin counter for free. Speaking of my mom - she was actually the one to get me into this - she purchased 1 Morgan, 2 Peace Dollars, a Roosevelt, Walking liberty half and silver washington quarter for .... you guessed it... $3.85! .... That, for her, was a rare find!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I start off on this adventure with my family (Roxy, Alex (2), Adam (4))!!
Thanks for looking and good luck!
PS.... does anyone know where I can find a guide on hunting thrift stores? Or at least a forum topic? I found a 22k Gold Culver souvenir Glass today for $0.75 - similar ones are on ebay for $20+ - how many grams of gold are in old tumblers or glasses? I would think at least 1 or 2? Still, I would pay 75 cents for $4 any day!
