Several weeks ago, I received permission from a development company that owns many properties in the area to hunt an old school house (where I eventually found an 1851 Large Cent). They plan to develop a community of 30,000 over the next 30 years. They still farm much of the land they own. I got a call from them asking about what detector they should buy to find metal posts still in the ground where they've removed existing old fence. Seems they had one of the metal post just below the surface puncture a tractor tire and cost them $1400 to replace. I volunteered to help them find the posts with my detector so I could better evaluate what they needed to purchase (my ulterior motive was to get permission to hunt some of their old farms they owned). I just finished working one of the fence lines with the president of the company today....finding about a dozen old metal posts, as well as fence wire and nails...but I also found this horseshoe. Anyone have any idea how old it is?
By the way....the president was so pleased with my finding these fence posts he told me (without my asking) I could hunt any of their properties whenever I wanted.

Well it's hard to say how old it could be. A little Cleaning up with a wire brush couldn't hurt. If possible, try to find out how old the farm or property is. That could give you an idea on how old the shoe could be.

The farm was started in the late 1860s. Most of the outbuildings were constructed in 1901.
