I have been searching a particular field on and off now for 6 years. Just when I think I wont find anything else, some sort of goodie pops out of the ground. After almost 35 years of detecting, I finally found my first Half Dime and as if that weren't enough, it turned out to be a key date. After looking at it in the field I was thrilled and couldn't wait to get home and look at it closer. It turned out to be an 1855 O Seated Liberty Half Dime, and is a key date with 600,000 minted, and according to the PCGS website, there is an estimated 250 coins surviving in private collections. I guess that means mine will make it 251 ! That is an extremely low survival rate on a coin. It also has a rarity factor of almost 7 out of the 10 possible. This is the same field where I dug my very first 3 cent silver Trime, three years ago. It was an 1852. No coins later than 1890 have come out of this field, and most have been in the 1850's and 1860's. Can't wait for my next trip there, as long as the weather holds out.

Congratulations on your first Half Dime, that's a lot of years of looking for one of those.
May the next one be just around the corner.

Awesome!!! Congrats!!!

Those litttle beauties are hard to find, so Big time Congrats for knocking that one off the bucket list! The low mintage and rarity make it even more special!
