I got my first half box yesterday. Had to order one and it took a week to get. I am pretty happy with what I found.

1968 D - SILVER :)
1972 D with no FG
1776/1976 cameo - almost uncirculated
2003 P

and one weird one. its a 1991 D. its thinner than normal and it sounds funny. not like silver but not like a normal half. no visual signs of tampering like a magician coin. not sure. anyone else come across these for this year.

overall it was not a great box but I did get a silver. So for my first box I am happy. I will have to call them and order another.

If it is a magician's coin, the date doesn't matter(they used all of the dates). Try putting it in the freezer for an hour and then drop it on a hard surface a few times. It should come apart. Another way is to get a mason jar and put the coin in it and shake the jar until the coin pops open. The ones I have found sound dead when dropped. More of a thud than a ring. Good luck, Jim

might be a stupid question but whats the deal with altering of a half for a magician coin? dont see the point unless its 2 sided? I do have a bicentennial have I got from a casino 20 years ago thats heads on both sides and I believe that one is a magician coin as I can see where the 2 were put together. thanks for the info. I will try and freeze it and see what comes of it.

so the funny sounding halve dollar was a magicians coin. threw it on the floor and it split in to. It was classic. Both my boys, 8 and 14, were in the room and I told them to watch. I threw it on the floor and POP, it split in two. You should have seen the look on there faces. It was classic. My 8 year old could not stop laughing. Thought I broke the halve. Then I showed them and they thought it was the coolest thing ever. so now I need to look for another as they both want it. lol.

Wow, a Magician's Coin in your first box. It took me probably 15-20 boxes to fine one. They go for around $20-25 online with the bang ring to sperate the two pieces and instructions. Although judging from your boy's reactions the Magician's Coin would be priceless to them. The trick done with the Half is called Scotch and Soda.
