Walmart Special 505
I found this ring in a park in Gunbarrel Colorado with my Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505. It was about about 4 inches deep and had some clad coins in it. I didn't think much of it other than the fact it was a ring - then I got it home and cleaned it up and realized it said 14K and Mexico inside. I researched the web and figured out it was a Mariners Cross - but could only find pendants and necklaces...no Rings.
I am amazed at the knowledge on this site and thought I would throw it out there to see if anybody has seen a ring like this or know anything about them.
I just started Metal Detecting in September - now I have OCD...Obsessive Compulsive Detecting.
Another Q...when I finally find the diamond ring that will pay for my detector, where the heck do I sell it?

Jellybone, I did a search under Anillos de Marineros (mariners rings) and right you are.

No ring as yet.

The wedding band next to that ring looks like Gold, but the ring in question looks like it might be eletroplated. And it looks like it's made with three different metals. The crucifix on the ring looks to be rose Gold or copper and the corss looks like it might be silver.

I’m going by what I can see, is it reflecting light or something?

That's definitely an electroplated item.

That Ring was basically brown when I pulled it out of the ground. Tried the wife's jewelry cleaner and that didn't help much - I think I also tried dish soap. any ideas on how to clean it better? Is it worth anything?

Yeah, soak it in household ammonia and if the ammonia turns green after an hour or so you know that one of those parts is copper.

Then take it out and scrub it with toothpaste, toothbrush, H20, dish soap, cotton balls and a cotton cloth. After that it should look new, if it's gold. A little chrome or metal polish doesn’t hurt after that.

Oh yeah, most of the old gold that I pull out of the ground has a black patina or very dark green patina that can't be seen as green until it's on the cleaning cloth. And the patina doesn’t cover the gold as a whole, it mainly collets in the nooks and crannies.

Wow - Thanks for the cleaning tip Mr Ant. This ring is heavy - like a class ring...Any ballpark what it may be worth?

Wow, that cleaned up great. By the looks of it I would guess the gold content would be around $165.00 to $200.00 at today’s spot gold price. Great find and thanks for sharing.

Nice looking ring.

HH and Good Luck.

An honest coin or jewelry dealer can test the ring for you and can tell you if it is 14k and he should be able to tell you what it weighs and what is worth.

Yo JB!

That ring looks fantastic!
TNET folks, don't let this one fool you, he's a killer with the Bounty Hunter 505. I can tell you first hand after hunting with him recently. Heres to mild weather and future hunts.
