Since it's your first flatbutton, and in case you don't already know:
A dug-in-the-US brass 1-piece flatbutton with backmark saying "Treble Gilt" in raised (not indented) lettering plus what seems to be a British crown means your button was made in Britain and imported into the US sometime between the 1790s through the 1830s. Your first flatbutton is probably a 200-year-old button, because the War Of 1812 "soured" the American public about buying British-made stuff for a decade or two after that war's end.

thank you for the information cannonball...thats exactly whats on the back of the button

hmm...if you are getting glass and buttons that old together - could be a pit nearby - you might want to bust the sifters out....

You were lucky, your first 1 piece button had a good & clear backmark,,,,MANY do not....

A nice example like yours is number one on my wanted list for the upcoming year. Congrats to you. I very much hope to get my first soon!

yea petew...it is trash pit....The only thing i know bout my property is that there was an old house on it....im not sure exactly where...but i know round about...i know trash area...finding lots of mason jar tops and various other sundries....i also dont know how far back this property goes as far as being inhabited...prior to that button i found a shotgun shell that they stopped making in 1926....but now that 200 year old button has thrown me for a loop......lol barry
