Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
Haha. I have just gotten into metal detecting. Messed around with them in the past, we use them at work from time to time... but never gotten into the hobby at all. Did some research, watched videos, etc... decided on the Fisher F44 for a starting unit that fit my budget. Received it this afternoon and wanted to test it out in my own yard. So, I set out and picked up hits all over (10's to 30's some higher, some lower). I feel like my house was probably built on a trash dump.

Anyway, I finally get a signal I want to really investigate. Dig, then use my portable Pro-Pointer. Dig some more, and repeat. Ended up about 6 inches down and found this little guy:

It must have been placed there right before I moved into the house because it was manufactured in 2007 (in Malaysia). It's from the "Ultra Rage" series (http://hotwheels.wikia.com/wiki/Ultra_Rage).

So... my first find is roughly 10 years old. Haha. I found some more metal later on before it got cold out (an extremely old nail, a screw, some tin foil, a can, etc). Going to need to find an area that isn't apparently a trash heap.

Hey Primus, welcome aboard! Actually, that's a pretty cool first dig.

Thanks. Yeah I'm going to start doing some serious research to find some interesting places to dig. I've never done anything like this, so this is all new to me.

Welcome to the hobby :icon_thumright:

Yeah, well, good luck on finding a public place (or even some private ones) that aren't a "trash heap". That's what we have discrimination for! :laughing7:

Welcome mate, nice job on your first find.

Awesome first! Backyards can and will turn up great untapped finds. Best of luck!

Thanks everyone. Happy to be here. Of course it would snow right before my days off. Going to try and get out some more this week and maybe on the weekend too.

Question... my kids are oddly excited about my detecting. Never knew they had any interest in this stuff... any recommendations for a cheap but decent detector they can use?

I gave my two grandsons the Bounty Hunter tracker IV and they've had a blast. One found a buffalo nickel and the other one found a silver dime and a silver quarter.

Welcome. Nice first find.

Coinmaster, Eurotek, Ace 250, and F22 are all decent entry level detectors.

Congratulations. And believe it or not, it only gets better.....
