My first find!

I bought a metal detector at a garage sale for $15, a BH Pioneer 101. Knowing it was a beginners MD I really didn't expect much. Now for some background, my house sits literally ON the Great Trail in Ohio. Anyway, I decided to search for some stuff around the house since it was built around 1850. Not ten minutes in, I found this guy about five inches down!

Of course it's all rusted, and my pictures suck because they are from my phone; but I was wondering if anyone on here from first glance could estimate around when it was made? If it helps, the metal of the blade runs all through the handle. Again, I'm very new to MD'ing, but I'm very proud of my first find!

When the metal runs "through' the knife it is called a Full Tang. It looks old but thats all i can tell. A keeper for sure!

That sounds incredibly like my story. I built a log house right on the Great Trail in Minerva. My very first find was the rusty remains of an old gun! I was about as hooked as I am sure you are!

Where are you located. I am now in Bolivar (other end of Great Trail) .

Great find......great start......now you are ready for an upgrade! lol

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the tips and encouragement. Yeah, after that I was pretty much hooked right there. Beautiful gun btw Tim! I'm like smack in the middle between Malvern and Minerva, pretty close to where you were. Now that its been done raining for a few hours, time for a second run!
