Well...in another topic I posted...I said I was excited to hit this yard, esp after a very long, hard rain.

Well, last night I told hubby we got permission to MD and if he wanted to go with me...he said he was reading...ahem...no he wasn't.

I told him, "You're the first person I ever met who could read with their eyes closed!!" (he was napping!! LOL)

But he didn't want to go...so I went over and just did a bit of the front yard. Skeeters were attacking me...I think they liked the OFF DEEP WOODS spray!! So, after about an hour...I got a few pennies (no wheaties), a lipstick case smashed and nothing really much to brag about.

Got home and did a couple of spots in our back yard (The skeeters followed me home!!) While fighting with the Skeeters, I managed to pull up two pennies, a nickel and a sinker!!

Well, this morning, knowning the ground is still nice and moist (easier for digging in this clay crap), I went over about 10 or so this morning (was trying to beat the skeeters!!)

I start sweeping along the gutter and hit a spot...got a penny, then another and then another. Then one hole I was in...I got a penny and as I was about to put the dirt back in the hole, I see something to the left of the whole...had a circular look to it. I pull it out and I thought it was a big slug or something. I brushed off the wet dirt and saw an eagle...I was so tickled...I got me a 1971 Dollar, MY VERY FIRST ONE (heck ... I was excited when I found my first quarter!!!). I am looking around for someone so I can brag!!! hehe...my neighbor just pulled up and I ran over to show her...I was like a kid who found a nickel and was going to buy penny candy (those were the days!!).

Well, this yard is such the virgin....coins everywhere...got lots and lots of pennies, a dime, a nickel, lots of metal of sort (don't know what it was from, thinking car parts), the bottom half of a broken screwdriver, some other thinger that I believe to be a handle of sort (maybe for a car), a rabies vaccine tag (whew, now I can prove I had my rabies shot!!)...now this is all from the street to middle of the yard. Then I mosey over to the side yard and get my "ding ding" sound. Thinking it's a penny. Well, I hit something...must be a rock (alot of rocks, cement, brick in this yard), then I hit it again...so I pinpoint it and it's where I hit a rock (so I thought)....brush some dirt away and see a round thing...OMG...another 1971 DOLLAR!!!!!!!!!!!! I am in seventh heaven now. You can see the two marks on the coin on the right where my spoon hit it when I thought I got a rock!!!

I had to stop....was getting very hot. I did not venture in the back yard, will wait for hubby...as this place is totally infested with poison ivy and well, let's just say, I cleared the poison ivy off of our creek bank when we first moved here...next morning, my eyes were puffed up and I barely could see!!!!!! I thought I protected myself with plastic all over my body (except the face, you don't put plastic bags on your face)....and well, that will teach me!! LOL

SO, I can only imagine what other goodies we will find in this yard!!! 1971 Dollar may not be much to some, but to me....that is the beginning to my gold!!!! LOL

Nicely done with those two dollars! I have never found and I don't think many others do either. They are modern, but didn't circulate too much, so very few were ever lost, and when they were lost they were so big that you could see them laying on the ground.

Did you say you were using a spoon to dig?? You need to get yourself a knife.

Thank you....atleast they are worth a buck apiece!!!

Yes, using a garden shovel (the small hand held thing). I would like to get one of those razor edge knives. What kind of knife do you use?

Great job, I found a gold plated one last year. My heart skipped a beat when I seen gold. Keep up the great job..

Congrats !

an IKE is A Very Rare Find indeed.

a second one ? what are the odds ?

If you find a 3rd. there, I'm gonna start following you around :P

Nice work -- haven't found one of those yet :) -- walmart has some garden shovels for like 2 bucks that are pretty solid - get the ones with the continious body -- no attachment just one solid piece.

Thank you.....I will check out those at Walmart!!! Thanks for the tip :)

This is the house I detected today and marked where I found both of the Dollars....wondering if there may be more hiding...may have to get the MineLab out...it goes deeper than the Garrett Ace 150.

I use an old hickory kitchen knife. Here is a link to one on ebay that is similar to mine: http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Ontario...636862588QQcategoryZ43322QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I got mine at a yard sale for a quarter. You need a nice, old, strong knife that has the metal going all the way through the handle. That way you can dig a nice deep, clean plug that still has roots in and you can do it in smooth motion. Dump the garden shovels... those are a waste of time in my opinion.... They require too much chopping at the ground. The knife you just stick straight into the ground and move it and it makes a nice slice.

Thanks to all of you....I can't wait for hubby to get home from work so I can say "SEE WHAT I GOT!!!"

It won't be a prob to getting back to that house, it's two houses down from mine :). This house has been empty for atleast 6 years.

Thanks bscofield6, I will check it out. But will check out the Walmart garden tool also...sometimes a shovel/spoon helps to remove the loose dirt :) Besides, I need a new one...hubby broke my garden tool that I actually use for the garden LOL.

:o What are the chances of finding 2 Ikes, congratulations! ;D Approximately how many inches down were the Ikes?

They were approx 6-7 inches down...the second one was deeper than the first. Guess cause the first one was found near the street and dirt running off with rain water and all...just a thought.

My first one, I had a very strong coin signal and found the penny, which was approx 1-2 inches...so I did not expect to find the dollar, which I found purely by "good luck" accident!!!

The second one, was just a DING........DING...a signal, but not strong DING DING DING. Thought it was prob a bottle cap, old pull tab (as I found a few of those)...but decided, what the heck...and well, the rest is history :)

Thanks!!! We plan to hit the yard Mon or Tues, the back yard this time :)
