Hello,
Long time surf pirate, first time dirt fisher. I was able to have a great day hunting, thanks in part to a bit of a misadventure. It seems that someone lost their wedding set, and an invitation to help find the missing rings was sent out via Tnet. It was mentioned that after the rings were found, we would be able to hunt some prime locations nearby. Well, I volunteered to assist, and off we went.
We spent a good 3 hours hunting for the ring. She lost it mowing the grass in a huge yard. After 3 hours in the sun, I was frustrated. We had only covered a fourth of the area between the three of us. I was sitting down taking a break, trying to cool my head, when fourth volunteer arrived. Anne, the lady who organized the hunt, went over to greet Eric, who had just arrived. As she walked to his truck, she said she saw something sparkle on the ground. She stopped, spun around, looked down, and voila! There was the missing wedding set!
After much celebration and a reunion between the ring and owner(who had worn it for over 41 years), we were off in search of the reward - a hunt on property with english settlement dating back to before 1650.
I felt it was time to break in my brand new Etrac, and off I went. I am totally new to dirt hunting, so this was a great new experience. My first target was a 1954 nickle! Nothing great, but for me, its an oldie, and a sign of older silver possibly around. Well, noone found any silver . But we did find some goodies. Anne's husband ron found an old Musketball shot, and Eric found 2 flat buttons! Anne herself managed to locate a wheatback. I personally found my very first button!! Very happy, and I am hoping someone can help identify it. There is no writing at all, and the outside is smooth. On the inside is a pattern going all the way around which you can see in the picture. I also found a pocket knife which appears to be a recent drop, and a shoe buckle! Also pictured is a square nail and a winston shotgun shell, another recent drop apparently.
I get the opportunity to hunt this property again in 2 weeks for 3 whole days, and I cant wait. We were only able to spend about an hour and a half hunting today, so i am sure there are lots of goodies just waiting for us the next time!
Thanks for reading,
Anthony
