I had got some helpful hints from Neil From West Jersey the other day on setttings for the DFX. And boy did they pay off.

From the same yard as I got the 42 Merc I got this 1908S Mint Barber Dime!! My first!! Anyone know the grade of this coin?

I went back yesterday and got a few coins but nothing as old. I will keep my chin up and keep on gettin out there!!

Thanks for reading. HH.

I looked in my '09 redbook, says $4 F-12. Just curious, what depth did your dfx read on the barber? i can't seem to have much luck with mine past 6", and not using factory pre-sets...dug my first barber too a couple days ago,1913. Congrats! FFD

Oops! Sorry, forgot S-mint! Make that $12 in F-12 cond.

I found one of those too! well, pretty close to it- 1908 D barber dime. the obverse is a little bit worn with a few minor scratches, but the reverse is in almost perfect condition. I'm curious to know how the different conditions would effect the overall grade. kudos for your dime!

I got the dime with a strong signal at 6 or so inches. It surprised me cause when I finally located the coin I thought
it was foreign.

lol.

FFD, keep in mind that most coins will be above the 6 inch mark. Most of mine, even older colonial era coins, are found in the 4-6 inch range, but sometimes a dime from the 1940's rings pretty good even at 10 inches. So much depends on your local conditions.

You may also want to try to adjust your ground filters, and slow down your sweep speed and recovery speed.

Send me a message if you want some of my custom settings.

Congrats on the Barber! Looks like it might have been through a fire? Nothing more than baking soda in the palm of your hand to wipe that off.

Congrats!

That is one sweet dime, congrat's. If you need any other help with your DFX check in at www.dfxonly.com

Thanks for all of your responses. I will take in account of what you said and apply it to my next hunt.

To grade this coin you would have to clean the dirt off better... alot depends on how much of the Liberty is left on the coin.. I personally don't think it would grade as a fine..I'm going with good to very good...
