I was supposed to meet TNetter BERGIE today in the Low Country of SC. As usual, he had a nice CW permission lined up. I was unable to go, as the hurricane Sally is heading that way. I was a little bummed, but that’s how it goes.

I decide to go out around town, since I had the day off of work. I hunted a set of vacant lots in an older part of town. I’ve hunted it before and found a few little tidbits, but nothing really killer. I was digging all the repeatable targets.

I got a garbled signal, iron with a high tone mixed in.

Sure enough the blade was iron, but the handle is marked Sterling!

BINGO! Nice consolation prize for not getting to go to meet BERGIE.

I found a few other pieces of junk like a 4” #3 made of brass, a flat button and a Belgian 25 (1940s) centimes zinc coin.

This target was a solid sweet high tone a little lower than a copper cent.

As soon as I saw it, I knew what it was, I’ve seen them in other peoples holes, just not in my holes. It’s a SC Militia palmetto button, my first Confederate button, the exact thing I was going to the Low Country to look for. Coincidence, maybe so.

Here it is lightly cleaned.

Thanks for looking and good luck on your hunts!

That's awesome Tom! Congrats on a really cool button. Great you were able to cross that one off the list!

CT! So awesome man. So is that your first Confederate Button ever? I didn't realize that. The Palmetto is so distinctive. Awesome man!!

Cool button, Tom, and nice hunk of 925. Good to see you postin.

Cool stuff, always jealous of the stuff coming out of the older states. Here in California not a lot of older stuff unless you know of the areas the Spanish had been active in. I'm always jealous of those finding civil war bullets and such I'd love to be able to find stuff like that.

Very nice finds! Congratulations on you palmetto button! That sterling knife handle is a beauty, to! Thanks for sharing.

I have several eagle buttons from the enemy, but that is the first Confederate button I’ve found. It was very random. Thanks man.
