My first Colonial hand forged hammer! (with pics of last week's Confederate digs)
This afternoon Rowdy the dachshund and I went to a 1750s site in Burlington NC just to find that it was too grown up to detect, but since we were already there we hit what we could. I dug more Iron signals than I normally do, and today it paid off. I got my first complete colonial hand forged hammer! I think it is beautiful. Still no coins, gold or silver from the site, but plenty of early relics. The photos show the hammer head after I sanded some rust off and gave it a vegetable oil bath.
I did not make a post last week, but here are the finds from about three days at a North Carolina Confederate camp. NC State Seal Buttons(2), excellent eagle button, percussion caps(2), flat button, confederate enfield, unknown copper clippings, lead cartridge box finial, round balls (3), Confederate clayware and Native American pottery shards(3)
