Well, now you know how exciting things can be!

My first coin was way back in 1963 as I recall. I build one of several BFO machines, and I used it on a patch of land next to my home where there used to be a bus stop. I still have the $2.10 cents I found in total. So, whatever you do, don't toss out that penny! Some day in the near future, the US will stop mending pennies, and you'll end up with a real keeper!

Now, don't just sit there in front of the keyboard! Get the hey out there and find more!

After 2 Hours of searching, it all paid off. And this time, no lids!!! I found my first coin, a 1962 penny......

Congratz! Your next will be a wheatie. Then your next a silver. Then pretty soon barber silver. Then seated, then busts, then gold coins...... and then ... pretty soon, you'll be bored with gold coins newer than 1800 ! :laughing7:

Congrats.Its a start.And hope you find many more.HH

Depends on how clean you want it. If you want to clean it gently...soak in peroxide and use soft brush. Will take awhile...you won't get it brilliant doing it this way...generally what I have found is the peroxide is good at removing localized soil from the coin without removing the dark copper tone too much...unless maybe you over do it with the brushing. If you want it brilliant...use vinegar or some other acid like lemon juice. Though never clean collectible coins that way. The acid method gives them an unnaturally brilliant look. Using chemical abrasives might work but makes them unnatural looking. What I use to clean my clad(that I later spend) is a brass bristle brush and water. It works pretty well...a little work involved but it just takes a few minutes. They don't have to be brilliant to cash in, just clean. Some people use a rock tumbler...I don't care for that method but it works...however you must be careful what medium you use to clean them and how long you leave them in there...because I have defaced coins with this method.

now your on the right trail
