Ok, gonna come clean with all you folks. Today I found my first coin.
Ive had this XTerra 70 for about a year. Ive been out and found a ton of trash during my short hunts.
I slipped and fell of the porch due to ice and tore every ligament/tendon ect in my right knee.
Then I ended up in the hospital e/room via ambulance about a month later w/very irregular heartbeat. They converted me w/drugs........but I was an emt for almost 30 years, and worked w/very busy fire dept. paramedics.
One of my students who started the iv and gave me the drug told me......Capt. if this dont work we will have to cardio vert you..... I said bullchit.............seen it done thousands of times........ya know charge the paddles....
Therefore ive been on the mend, knee still gives me grief, especially when the weather changes.
They want to due surgery but I opted out. I died on the operating table as a child, but was revived.
Today I grabbed the detector and took our pooch Ruby to the park.
I was scanning the tot lot playground for abt ten minutes today........and found my first honest to goodness coin.
A 1998 penny. I was so danged excited I couldnt believe it.

Heading back to the park tomorrow.

When doing tot lots it is important to cover every inch of it. I generally start at one corner & go straight to the other side. When I arrive at the other side after picking the first lane clean I finish my swing on the inside of the tot lot, place the coil on the ground and move into position on the other side of the coil. Then straight across to the other side. You would be surprised to find lots of coins and jewelry out in the middle of nowhere in the tot lot (where you would think all the finds would be at the end of the slide or the swings). Above all, go slow and don't pass up those pull tabs...they could be gold!

Thanks for the tips, will do that tomorrow since wifey has the day off and can handle our dog Ruby.
She is a Rhodesian Ridgeback and can be a handfull at times.
I cant play w/the dog and dectect at the same time.

Looks like you're on the mend my friend

Now that you've found your first coin, you're hooked for life.

Check the schools too, their tot lots and fields are usually loaded with coins and other neat stuff. Also check some private yards..if that penny got you going, there's no telling how you'll react to something bigger!

Take care,
Nat

Congrats on your first coin bbqbull, regardless of what kinda coin, the first one is such a rush isn't it?.. I am very sorry
about your injuries, but I understand too.. so I can't blame ya on the no surgery.. I wish ya lots of luck hunting and cant wait to see what other goodies you find..

no need to "explain" how you're only just now finding your first coin...we've all been there at one time or another!

hope you mend quickly and score many. many more first!

Congratulations on that first coin! Sounds like you've had a busy year. Great that you can get out and hunt! :)

Good luck tomorrow! Nana :)

just keep plugging along ----cuz theres more of them and other bigger better stuff out there

I think this coin is going to change your luck, smooth sailing from here on out. Put up a pic of your dog when you get a chance. Those are very interesting dogs.

the bad news is while its hard to watch the dog while MDing -- the good news is with a "loin" dog around doubtful anyone will try mess with you--- ridgebacks (a breed from africa) were bred to go into deep brush after wounded loins with human hunters ----basically they are K9 body guards while the hunter puts down the wounded lion-- they are big & strong, totally fearlesss and very loyal to their owner--- they will give their lives for you if need be--- (they were bred to be that way thru very selective breeding) -- I (almost) pity the fool that trys to mess with you when its around . --- Ivan

That is the first of many, many more treasures you're gonna dig. Glad to hear you're gettin better...

Keep safe...
