•’16-‘19 Tecknetics Delta 4000
•’19-‘current Garret AT Pro
Primary Interest:
Metal Detecting
It’s been five years since I’ve last posted
and boy do I have a lot of catching up to do.

Quite recently, About three weeks ago I was detecting parking strips
in a somewhat old area of Austin during late afternoon. I was approached
by guy that wanted me to come and see what I could find in the empty lot
next to his house.(also his property)

The sun was almost down but I did have my headlamp
so how could I pass that up.
Immediately I saw an old Stonewall on the property as well as
an old massive Live Oak.
I dug a few pull tabs then decided to focus
on the base of the old tree.

Just as the sun was sure as set I got a fairly good signal nestled in the roots.
Nothing special, rang up as a good solid 83.
(Rocking a Garret AT Pro)

I dug four or five inches down
And coins started spilling out
the sides of the hole.

Was my first old coin “cache”.

A few days later after some research
I found out that was the site of an old hunting lodge
that overlooked Shoal Creek.

Out of that one hole I pulled:

• 1898 Barber quarter
• 1915 Barber quarter
• 1930 Standing liberty quarter
• 1914 Barber half dollar(1930)
• 1907 Barber dime
• 1896 Indian head penny

• 6x liberty head nickels(most to corroded to date)(one 1910)
•A good luck token
•1942 S Penny(strangely corroded like zinc???)

And In excellent condition..
•1942 Mercury Dime

Due to the 50 year date difference
I assume it must’ve been a kids collection buried around the end of World War II.

If anyone can help me ID this token it would be much appreciated.

He did not see me find the coins. I debated not bringing it up but I gave him my word I would show him if I found anything cool. After showing him he was somewhat hesitant on letting me hit the rest

That’s what we all dream of. Congratulations [emoji106]

It’s exactly that gardenscott. Gotta appreciate the irony, I wasn’t even seeking out the permission spot. I mean, after all those late nights researching to no avail and it just hops right into my lap.
:laughing7:

Lone Star, Congrat's to you on one very nice coin spill. Well Done. Here's hoping he will let you hit this spot again.

Very cool cache  Those coins may even have still been in circulation at the end of WWII, but probably were accumulated over a period of years. Why and how they ended up in the ground together waiting for you to discover them we will never know.

I'm ready to hunt so bad this year and then I read something amazing like this. Awesome! Still waiting on my first good spill

There you go. Another great detecting result. Congratulations :icon_thumright:

I was just lamenting that no one posts any caches and you crush it with this one. Great job!!

WoW!
You did GREAT! :icon_thumright:
What a haul...!
Good Luck token musta been the reason you found them,
as there can be no other reason, right?

I would go back and hit that area real hard. Guys may have sat under that tree for years and coins fell out of there pockets. Hopefully the guy will let you back on the property. Great find!

yeah ! i noticed that too. the polkadot print. it brings out the color in their eyes ? dont it ? just an observation ! dont blame me i'm a zombie.
