I stumbled onto this site a couple of weeks ago and just bought my first box of nickels.

Here is what it yielded:

32- Pre-1960 nickels
3- Buffalo nickels 1918, 1920, ND -these were very exciting for me!
3- Canadian nickels 84, 87, 90
1- 2005 S Proof in rough shape
1- almost completely smooth V nickel?
No War nickels---- errrrr

It was fun and I will do it again. I also went around to a few banks and got $22 worth of halves, but no silver at all.

That was a very decent box for sure. Are you in NC by chance?

I found 13 war nickels last year but toward the end of the year I went on a dry spell and haven't found one in the last several months despite searching numerous boxes. Like all silver, I guess it comes in spurts.

Im still waiting on my first V!

I found my first V-Nickel on like my 3rd box then I found 2 more in my 6th box, 2 rolls apart.

no silver - but still a pretty good box. It looks like that 2nd buffalo is a '23 but I can't see the date as well as you can so I'm probably wrong. Too bad the V is in such rough shape but it's still a nice find - still haven't found one yet myself.

I am in NC.

So how do all you guys check nickels? I date checked everyone when I got a box and it seemed like it took forever to finish it.

I think that the 2nd one is a '23 as well.

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

I date check them all. Its my weekend chore, keeps me busy during these winter months I cant be out catching Catfish.

Forgive me for sounding stupid but what do you guys get rolls of coins from the bank to find these? Is it an even $ amount trade for rolls of coins? I do kind of collect coins but only the coins I or my wife receive from store purchases. I DO make sure to check every date on every coin and I do save ones that are worth saving. I never thought about doing this. If I am correct on my assumption of what you guys are talking about I am going to try it tomorrow. I got plenty of time to check the dates. FUN!

I'll find one sooner or later.
I have been doing a lot of nickels lately.
Halves are slow.

And I see I have found another Kentucky man to compete with. lol

Yes, I go to banks. I picked up two bricks of Nickels, $100 each brick, both contain 50 rolls of 40 coins. They are a tad bit heavy.

Nice Box, if you can avg 3 buffaloes and 1 V nickel per box you're doing great, even without any silver! I hope they keep coming!! About 6 months ago I got my first nickel box and it had 14 buffaloes in it, I was ecstatic!
