My first coin ring

I just finished my first coin ring and I had a lot of fun on the project. I made it out of a 1964-D washington quarter. I made a couple of small errors while making it, but it was just my first and I have a MUCH better idea how to approach my next one.?

It was part of a presentation for my technical writing class at college as a "how to" presentation. All the gals wanted to keep it, but it was my first and it has sentimental value? ;)

I want to thank those that replied to my previous posts on the coin ring subject and for the leads they gave me? :)

PS...pic is not that great, but you get the idea how it came out. The pic does not do the outside of the band justice. It is very bright and shiny when it was finished

It looks good, Steeler. Here is a picture of the two that I have started on. Just a bit of fine tuning and some polishing then I am done. The coins that I used are from the Philippines dated 1944 and 1945, and come from my collection. These coins are silver and were minted in San Francisco. The large coin is a 50 centavo coin and the smaller coin is 20 centavos.

Thanks all for the comments!

Dirt,
I am not really sure how long it took me. I was having to much fun to notice how much time was passing. Kind of like when you are out and having a good day hunting. The longest part is getting the coin edges flattened to form the band.
If anyone has some extra time, you should give it a shot and make one. You might have more fun than you think :-)

I didn't use the spoon to form the band. What I did was take hexagonal dumbbell that I had laying around and used one the flat sides as an anvil, while slowly turning and tapping the coin edge with a small brass hammer. This seemed to work the best for me. I guess it took me about 45 minutes to an hour to form the band to where I was happy with it. Did you work your ring on a bench or a table? I tried to use a table to rest the dumbbell on, but kept hitting my fingers with the hammer. I had to sit in the floor with the dumbbell between my legs. I had much better control that way.

It really is an enjoyable way to pass a rainy day.

Wow great ring(s). I have a few silver quarters I found and wanted to make a ring but didn't know if a quarter would work well. Thanks for the pics, I may give it a whirl.

I actually went ahead and made myself a ring out of a 64 kennedy half. This time I was patient and took my time. Ring came out GREAT and my relatives were VERY impressed. My first try I made some mistakes, but I was wiser the second time! I will post some new pics soon, so keep an eye out for them!

By the way....you are right...they ARE addicting!
