Surprises all around today.
Went to a park I have been to before, I found a silver bracelet and a croatal bell here in the past.

I was actually looking for jewelry on a soccer field, but on my way there I passed by a large mound of dirt next to a picnic pavilion.
Swinging over this thing I got a zinc signal and dug that...this button popped up.

Still researching and trying to get the back clean to read it and track down a more exact date, but it is from around the civil war...I think it is from the war years or just before but we will see once I can read the words on the back.

Here is the surprising stuff...
It was only about 1 1/2" deep, and this is an officers coat cuff button from the New York Militia!
I have no idea how it got here and happened to be dropped in Kansas, but it was and I got it!
Got a shank and it seems to be in great shape too, with a little gilt still on it.

Love this hobby!
