I went to an old house I recently got permission to hunt, and found my first buffalo nickle today. It's a 1935 with a worn, but easily readable date. I found a couple of wheats and a lot of clad and copper mem cents. The funny thing is, if ound 2 nickles in one hole. Both were jeffersons. I said to my friend, "one day I'll find a buffalo or V nickle", and the very next signal (seconds later) was another nickle signal. I dug out the buffalo and couldn't believe it! I didn't think it was going to be an old coin, since it was only probably 3" deep, but it was.
The guy that owns the property told me someone had already detected it around 20 years ago. I guess they didn't do too well, since we found the stuff we did. Even most of the clad and mem cents were from the '60s and '70s. We didn't hunt for a really long time, and I'm anxious to get back over there. Work is so busy right now I just don't have much time to detect lately.
