I went to an old house I recently got permission to hunt, and found my first buffalo nickle today. It's a 1935 with a worn, but easily readable date. I found a couple of wheats and a lot of clad and copper mem cents. The funny thing is, if ound 2 nickles in one hole. Both were jeffersons. I said to my friend, "one day I'll find a buffalo or V nickle", and the very next signal (seconds later) was another nickle signal. I dug out the buffalo and couldn't believe it! I didn't think it was going to be an old coin, since it was only probably 3" deep, but it was.

The guy that owns the property told me someone had already detected it around 20 years ago. I guess they didn't do too well, since we found the stuff we did. Even most of the clad and mem cents were from the '60s and '70s. We didn't hunt for a really long time, and I'm anxious to get back over there. Work is so busy right now I just don't have much time to detect lately.

Congrats Cheese! Ive yet to dig a buffalo, soon I hope! Also, someone hunted the 20 years ago but technology wasnt what it is today, & it goes to show you nothin is ever realy hunted out! At 3 inches they just missed that one Id say! Great find! ;D

Very nice find!! And that it has a date is icing on the cake. WTG!!! HH

Congratulations on your first! Any first finds are great. I am still saying I am going to find a V nickel one of these days...

Congrats on the first buffalo.

Technology and lazy hunters have made it easier for me to find stuff.

great find on your first buffalo. I have only found one but cannot read the date so you got one better on me. Still have a lot of the older coins to find yet. Only found the buffalo, merc dime, and 2 large cents. Still need all the others (IH penny, SLQ, Barber dime, etc.)

Congrats Cheese! I need to try that method! :D

;)

Run in herds huh? Well you can bet I plan to go look for the others, lol. I still get that disbelief feeling...amazed that there are actually still old coins like that in the ground when I find one. I hope it never goes away! Next time I need to remember to say "One day I'll find a gold coin", and see what's in the next hole ;D.
