Found this last weekend at a site that Ive dug mid 1800s coins. I have no clue what it is
my father thinks it’s a shaving handle for a disposable blade
That rivet makes me think it might of had leather attached stirrup part??
what do you guys think? Seemed to be 100% brass IMG_6938.JPGIMG_6940.JPGIMG_6941.JPGIMG_6939.JPG
I think it’s bent at the end but not sure

Interesting find.
What I'm trying to figure out is if it's suppose to be bent like that or not?
I assume it's made of brass? :icon_scratch:

It's a little bent, but to me it looks like a five-dollar bill.

I'm thinking it's part of an old tie down strap tie line, that you'd adjust the slack with the threaded part hook a looped rope on that button hook part and pull down tight a rope by snapping shut the lever handle. Maybe for a large tent or something to secure a load like a modern tie down strap :dontknow: the bend in it looks intentional to me. Maybe made that way so you can get your fingers underneath the lever and release the strap or rope?

Yes. Entirely brass. Put the magnet to it and nothing.
The bend does look very even to me. Still wondering about this one.

Maybe a 19th C hoof knife?

If it were iron then I’d say your onto something
It’s brass and pretty soft for a dedicated hoof knife.
Although... it would work for that purpose a few times for sure. And definitely a good guess. Thanks.

Is got a central spine going up the flat part on both sides.
I’ll try to get better pic of that.
The tall rivet makes me think thick leather was involved
