My detector is going nuts.

Detector(s) used
Garrett GTP 1350
My detector is a Garrett GTP-1350. When I turn it on, I no longer get the normal threshold hum. All I get is this insanely loud repeating blast sound that usually means I have a large metal object directly under or on top of the coil. Yet, there is no such object. This is the "overload" sound.

Does this mean my coil has a problem? I've had this detector for 5 years and this is the only coil I've had on it. I don't own any other coils so that I could test the detector with a different one. Or is this a problem with the detector or something else? I tried putting brand new batteries in it. That didn't work.

Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks...

I would say its probably the search coil. Just my guess though. Its too bad you dont have a spare coil to test the unit out with, that way you would not have to send it off to Garrett.

I agree. I've also tried to press and hold the power button to reset. It resets all the settings to factory default, but doesn't solve the problem. Looks like a trip to Garrett is in order. Anyone have any ideas on other things I can try before I send it off?

If youre using a coil cover remove it and see if something is in it. other wise call garrett.

check your coil real good, I had a piece of metal stuck to mine once that gave me problems
