I met shaun at his house early this morning and after a cuppa and a mauling by Yogi, we went off to one of his fields. The weather was a bit changeable at first but by late morning it was warm and I had found my first hammered. Shortly after, I found another small hammered with a hole in it, and throughout the the rest of the day a few more bit and pieces including a small strip of silver about 1.5 inches long and very thin. There appears to be some form of patterning on it along with a possible hallmark, I will try to get better pics in daylight tomorrow.
Thanks for a great day shaun :icon_thumleft:, I'll get you on some of my fields over the next couple of weeks .

Pic.1) Charles 1st Sixpence (obverse)
Pic.2) Ditto (reverse)
Pic.3) Small hammered with hole
Pic.4) Patterned strip of silver
Pic.5) Possible hallmark
Pic.7) Some of the other bits

Once again, cheers shaun .

It is very similar in size and has some of the same lettering as a Queen Mary penny :dontknow:.

Great looking finds hammered :notworthy:
This item has me perplexed though, can you read enough of the hallmarks to ascertain a date? I thought when I first viewed this that it might be a scabbard to a knife or possibly a dirk . . . what are your thoughts on it? :icon_scratch:

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave, sorry it took so long to get back to you, the strip of silver isn't big enough to be more than a band of some sort. Maybe the type of band you get around a fountain pen?. I will take better pics tomorrow in daylight, and try to focus on the hallmarks better, also put something in for size reference. Trouble is I can feel a field calling me to detect :laughing7:, and I might just have to get up early tomorrow and find some more stuff ;D.

Thanks for the response hammered, I would have never guessed it was that small.
Have you had an opportunity to look up the hallmarks . . . just curious as to the date? :icon_scratch:
