I'm pretty sure it is a re-work by later people.
Looking forward to input on that.
 

It's only 2&7/8"
It's glued in a frame, sorry for the bad pic.
My friend found it in Bernadotte IL.
I always admired it.
He gave it to me before he died of cancer.

Why do you think it was reworked by later people? Looks like a very nice Sloan.

That thing looks absolutely deadly.

O'brien and Wood in "The Prehistory of Missouri" wrote quite a bit about why Dalton points with the same hafting design are found in different point forms. Of course it's all theory but it's a good read if you haven't read it.

What does Sloan mean?
I just thought a later person found a broken Dalton and resharpened it into a drill.
 

Whatever it is, its a beauty.. I would be happy to own that..
