My Dad's penny collection 1909-2007 and a big flat Merc

Well it's tough to see from the pic, but my dad gave me his penny collection. He tried to get every year but missed only these:
1915...1922...1932...1933...1934...1963...1998...2001...2003
I guess he thought it would be funny to glue the 1973 and 1974 together to make a double headed coin most likely to fool us when we were kids.
I plan to raid my husband's change can to fill in the missing ones.
He also gave me two beautiful dollars (forgot the name) and a big flattened out Merc along with a normal 1922!

Just thought I'd share.

Very nice. Check the back of those Morgan Dollars and see if they have the "CC" mark. These would be Carson City dollars and worth quite a bit. The mark will be right above the "DO" of DOLLAR on the back of the coin.

One does! On the 1787 one! The other one is something like an S. What's Carson City?

Looks like, the 1878 is in decent shape,, makes it worth $100 to 150. The 79 maybe 25 to 30$. Nice coins!

Carson City is the Capital of Nevada. Back in the days of the Comstock Lode, which was the location of the extremely rich silver mines at Virginia City, not not many miles from Carson City, there was a U. S. Mint, and they made silver money from the silver recovered from those rich mines. You will have to look up the years that the mint was operating, I have no idea, but I don't think it was very long, and it's a rare mint mark.

Imagine, it made it's way up here in Rhode Island from Nevada, in the pocket of God knows who! As I mentioned in previous posts, anything my dad passes to me that can be passed to my kids is priceless!

Good for you Bev...

I have one coin a very nice Canadian 1948 silver dollar that a few friends want and have made offers..

The value of this coin for me is Family, not $$$, it was be passed down..

Bev - you should look in to getting a penny book to fill up all those pennies! :notworthy: - the older dates like the 1909 vdb S mint mark are worth some bucks too. I've seen something in red book a while back where 1909 was worth about $900-$1000 - this link might be helpful showing key dates for wheaties!

I had a collection has a kid and am working on re-collecting them since they stolen. :'( sad times right there...
anyhow I have about 60% now doing the coin roll hunting for them...mostly I find the 40-50s coins in rolls but I'm hoping to open a 1909 someday out a roll!!! you never know. :)

thanks for showing them off!
