Thank you to all the folks who made me feel so welcome!
I will try to accurately describe the mystery button I mentioned in my introduction. The pictures were upright when I loaded them, but now I see they rotated during attaching! Another mystery.

*size=approx. 1 inch *weight=approx. 5 g
*there are no marks on the back that I can see
*shank is soldered
*the blue color in the picture on the front is not part of the button
*surface, as can be seen in the pic., is lumpy/textured. Trench art?
*material is not magnetic
Any help greatly appreciated!

Large file sizes often are rotated. I noticed that your file was wider than it was tall and that is another reason it was rotated. I resized one picture to see how it would show up.

Thank you! Yes, the "Peace" does indicate that it would not be military.

I am having trouble matching my replies with the correct person who offered me help. In case you didn't receive my previous reply, or it was the wrong one; thank you for the info. on a similar button. Yes, it certainly seems that the "Peace" on the button would eliminate the possibility of being military. Thank you again!

Hi - welcome to the forum :) If you want to quote the person you are specifically replying to (like I did above) you can click the "reply with quote" button at the bottom of their post. It will bring you to a small reply box at the bottom and if you click the "go advanced" button it will bring you to a larger reply box.

I think I found your button in an 1981 article by Alphaeus Albert in the NBS Bulletin. It looks like he is listing it with his "Unclassified and Unidentified" group. My copy of his Uniform and Historical Buttons book only goes up to UU-179 while he is calling your button UU-181.

my opinion is that this button was made in the first few years following WW1, just as the peace dollar was issued to commemorate peace following the devastating conflict. however, I have no idea what type of clothing it's intended use was for
