I go to my CU that 3 weeks ago said no problem ordering halves on a weekly basis for me. I pick up the 4 boxes and they tell me that corporate says they have to pass on the cost of ordering boxes to me starting in July. They do not have the exact fee yet but said that the Fed charges them $50 per unit (they think unit means order, not box - still waiting for clarification) and the armoured courier charges $13 per box of halves. What a racket!! Hell, if I could order direct from the Fed, I would drive to LA and pick it up myself. I am not paying $100 for 4 boxes of halves. I tell them that my fiancees bank charges nothing for the same thing so I will probably be closing my account. I asked how much they pay for quarters, dimes etc, and he says they do not order coin, they get enough from members to cover their needs. They only call for pickup when they get too much and this isn't very often from what he says.
One of my questions is how come some banks/CUs charge and others do not? I can understand them wanting to charge if an order of 4 boxes of halves is $100 a whack, that adds up quick on a weekly basis. Do some banks get a discount on this based on their size/frequency of orders? HH all.
