My Compliments

Nice find in the Porche! I use to have two of them, a 1958 Convertible (wreck given to me) and a 1963 356B Coupe. Sold the '58 for parts and sold the Coupe for peanuts! What was I thinking? ??? :'( Monty

See what being out in the sun too long without a hat will do to your brain. ???

Hey, Monty, about ten years ago I had a new neighbor— very briefly— who drove in late one night and parked a bright red sportscar in a dark nook of the property. Not suprisingly, he was soon gone again, and gone for good... in, so help me, a Ferrari F40! That was the first and only time in my life that I had absolutely no doubt that I was looking at a stolen car. For what that baby cost, you could have bought our whole humble little neighborhood!

My little coupe was the neatest car I have ever owned. It was a dark blue with red leather upholstery, Blaupunct stereo radio and handled like a dream. The gearbox was so smoothe it would shift without a clutch just by reving the engine. It had the old modified VW engine with two two barrell carbs, not that much horsepower but it would scat! I should say the VW had a detuned Porche engine instead of vice versa. I was on the turnpike once and a new corvette wanted to race me. I knew I couldn't outrun him but I have him a go anyway. My Porche would only do about 115 mph top in, but it would do it all day without straining it. The 'Vette ran off and left me of course but about 20 miles down the road I passed him beside the road with steam boiling out of the hood. I gave him the little hi-pitched toot toot of the horn as I went by! Paybacks are hell! Ah, misspent youth! ::) Monty

Monty,

Also had a 73' 911-T that originally had a 2.8 liter fuel injected engine which I totally destroyed by throwing a $0.50 timing chain guide. Had the engine rebuilt by S-Porsche to a 92' 3.5 Liter turbo carrera spec, blueprinted and balanced, with new cams...scared the bejesus out of me. Its like a scateboard with a corvette engine strapped to it.

Soon after I got the car back, I headed up to Santa Barbara one weekend to pick up some MGTC parts...normally this trip would take 2 to 3 hours depending on traffic. Well, on this particular Saturday morning I left home at 6 and was having breakfast in Galeta (10 miles west of Santa barbara) at 7:30.

On the way home I stopped in Thousand Oaks to gas up and a CHP Officer came over and started up a conversation about my car. He asked if I had driven west earlier in the morning...of course, I shrugged my shoulders and asked why.

He said that he was trying to catch up with a Porsche of the same color and body style and got lost in the dust.

Not this old clunker? ::) Hell, its just a 20 year old Super Beatle.

I had to wait until he left before I started the car up to leave. ;D
