my buddy has the MD Bug and need advice

well with all the talking to my buddy about the fun my son an di have and the few things we have found , it has got my buddy thinking he wants to try MDing. he asked me if i knew anything about the ones on Amazon.com.
he said they are cheap but look good,, does any one know of them or be willing to look and give some input ?
i barely know how to use my whites spectrum , let alone a different name brand.
any input on the amazon ones will be appreciated .

I think Amazon carries all kinds of brands at all prices, so you need more specifics on what he is looking at. I'd suggest you take him out a few times before he buys, and maybe even road trip to your nearest dealer so he can try before he buys.

Whites, Tesoro, Fisher and Garrett all make a good beginners detectors for less than $400.00. Usually around 179.00 to 350.00 or so. If you look up metal detector shops near you, you might find a dealer that you can deal with. Amazon.com usually doesn't offer the sale prices or the free stuff that the detector web sites or shops offer. Get something with auto ground balance so he can focus on listening and learning.
