My best square knife

I have only a few square knives in my collection.

This square knife is made of coshocton flint, 4 inches long x 1 1/4 inches wide.

Nice ! Other side ? Most SNs are Woodland era, but the wide, flat removals on yours suggest Paleo reduction strategy.

Coshocton, like Flintridge is not common, but not really a rare find in the area. We in Indiana are in an area where we can almost find any types of flint. Attica Chert is not uncommon, nor is Burlington or Jeffersonville flint.


Attica Chert, AKA Indian Green, is found in the far western area of Fountain County, Indiana; My first complete clovis is made of Attica Chert. This clovis was found in the far east area of Indiana. I found a clovis base in the 80s made of Coshocton in central Indiana.


One site I have hunted for over 30 years produces 75% Jeffersonville flint relics.


My first relic found in Missouri back in the 70's was made from Harrison County flint from southern Indiana.

Nice specimens.
None not broke. Flattop piece probably not a Sknife it was just grabbed.
I have seen some from my general area but nothing complete.

That Square knife is big and beautiful.

It seems that coshocton flint traveled far and wide.
My first find is also made of coshocton.

Add to previous note (no Edit option) that there are Dovetails that show the same kind of roughing out flaking on their flatter sides. Just noticed that recently @ Jon Dickson's site.
