I got out for an hour this evening to a new site in my neck of the woods and believe I hit a good site. The "68" button was the first target recovered. I am sure someone can tell me the era and info of this regiment.

The stirling silver spoon was the second target. It is silver and is a North Dakota souvenir spoon. It is intact and has really nice detail.

I also hit on a crotal bell which is intact. Thanks for looking!

Is the spoon marked sterling?

Nice finds,

Keep @ It and HH!!

Yep...and above stirling there are two birds flanking a crested "M"...a makers mark I assume!

How about reading the button as "89"? Note the foliole with dot at the top, as on French infantry regiment buttons of the late 18th and 19th centuries.

A lot better chance it's British 89th. (same design)

Iron Patch is exactly right! (Although the style was directly copied from French buttons of the period.)

According to Parkyn.

"The early buttons of the 89th were gilt, flat, with the design of '89' within a star of eight points. After 1800 the design on a gilt convex button was of '89' within a French scroll. There were two types of this button for both officers and other ranks, one with a dot at the opening and the other without, the latter being probably the earlier."

For a kinda upside down guy Romeo you have a good find there! :D

The back will tell the rest of the story... it is brass right? I'm guessing the green crud is a good indication it is.

Hey, those are some really cool finds!!

Love the detail work on that sterling spoon. ::)

Congrats Romeo, the spoon is great and the button is a super find. The 89th according to the link I attached did serve in North America during the War of 1812, so perhaps that might be a possibility.

It depends on the back mark. I'm pretty sure these are post war too.

Nice finds, thats a cool button!

Yep, it is brass...I can't really make anything out on the back...There was writing there but it is unreadable...

very nice....when I first saw the "spoon" I immediately thought "letter opener".......any chance that's what it actually is?......in any event, nice job!

HH all!

Greg

Nope, the spoon bowl is just bent over on itself...

Cool digs! I love the detail on the spoon and the button is cool too!
Congrats

Very nice digs, especialy the button. I really like finding the buttons because you can usually trace the history. Well done. GL & HH
