Couldn't believe my eyes when I pulled this out of the river bank edge....I had no idea it would be whole and so large.....my favorite find so far. Found near Live Oak, CA like the plummets/charmstones I posted earlier.
Is that what they call a Haskett Blade? I'm sure it is and a very fine one at that. Man, I would probably just about pass out if I pulled one of those out of the ground.
Very nice and thanks for sharing the picture with us.
Yes, I forgot to mention that it is made out of obsidian......I've only ever found one obsidian point before in Walnut Creek, CA but that one had it's tip broken off and it was only 4-5" long.
There's a funny story behind that find...briefly....I was the engineering consultant on a Park and Rec project in Walnut Creek, CA (The contractor was building a baseball field for the City of Walnut Creek) One day I was walking the infield where the pitchers mound was being graded and something shining from the sun caught my eye in the dirt....it was that broken tip obsidian arrowhead. I thought it was really cool to find it, and I went into the trailer to show the contractor.......He flipped out! He started shouting that he can't afford to have me shut his project down.
I was like chill out man.....I'm not going to shut the project down over a little arrowhead...but he was really freaked out by it.....I ragged him about that day for the rest of the project......I used to hold the arrowhead high up in my hand whenever we had a disagreement over something about the project as if to say " I HAVE THE POWER!!! That was pretty funny!
Sorry to digress, but yes the blade is made of obsidian.
