My best coins of 2009

I started out 2009 finding two 1914S Saint-Gaudens $20 Gold coins in a leather money belt 6 inches deep in sandy soil in the woods.
A few weeks later I found the 1918/17-S Standing Liberty Quarter 6 inches
deep in the park woods about 50 yards from the tot lot.
1916D Buffalo Nickel found in the woods.
1891 Seated Dime found in the woods.
1877 Indian Head Cent next to an old walking trail in the woods.
Even though I have found lots of coins in 2009 these are the best and I will
only post these.

I have pulled a lot of nice coins out of two sites I've been detecting the last two years. My finds are thinning out at these sites and I know there are more to find there and it will take a lot of time. I'm looking at some new areas and all I can say is you never know what your going to find. Thanks for the nice reply.

Hi keverett. I have spent years detecting. I started out 20 some years ago with the $120. coin master and went to the 6000 DI and wasn't finding much, than quite for a few years. When I bought the DFX about 7-8 years ago I still wasn't finding much until a couple of years ago I decided to detect in the park woods and found out there was old coins in there. The mowed areas have been hit hard over the past 25 or 30 years and who would have guessed there were still coins left in the woods.
Here is a picture of the play ground in the Oronoco park. Just behind the playground is the woods. About 15 feet inside there is were I found the 1918/17-S Standing Liberty Quarter. Just a few feet away in the mowed area is were the dance hall was in the 1900's and Burnt in 1926. I hunt another park that has woods also. I put in lots of hours in these parks and a lot of days I didn't find anything.

Well I'm glad you were rewarded for all of your time and efforts. It is truly an inspiration to see that rare old coins are still being dug, even after 25 years of detecting! I live out in California, and haven't done any "woods" hunting. I plan on getting out this year up into the forest land to see what I can find, but I don't even know where to begin. Thank you for posting your finds, and keeping us "newbies" out there looking for the elusive rare oldies.

I think it is probably one of the very best finds on T-Net.

Man, this is such a tossup for me. The 1918/1917 overdate is awesome! But I still have yet to find a gold coin. Hmmm. Which do I live more? Decisions, decisions.
