My beach isn't safe!

Hello,

I took my BHID again to try and learn it and i saw 3 other water hunters! They said they didn't find anything (probably a lie) but there were some other things for me to find. I got a nickel and a wheaty, plus a bunch of nails.

One of the real problems was i did not know where to hunt, so any suggestions for this freshwater beach would be nice

Also, do you believe it be worth my time to build a floating screen?

I like the older stuff myself so I would go back to the spot you found the wheat cent and scour it good and slow listening for the faintest sounds and also digging the borderline signals. Look for "cuts" where there are troughs in the sand many times they run the length of the beach, there may also be isolated holes in the sand. Feel the sand with your feet, soft sand is usually a waste of time, look for harder sand it will probably be a bit darker sometimes black. Also look for gravel, there is usually old stuff trapped in it, check it over real carefully. Be sure and go to the Golden Olde website too, I hope this helps you find some good stuff.......Steve.

That great website is www.thegoldenolde.com/ Old rusty nails like you found give off a higher conductive signal than a regular nail so if these other hunters didn't hear the nails, they no doubt didn't hear any gold rings either unless they were using Excals.

Some like a floating sifter. It boils down to the fact that what you scoop up you place in the sifter and go on hunting an let the water wash the mud/sand away. Why not just look in the scoop. If you are using a scoop with a bunch of holes like the Sunspot you don't need to be carrying the sifter around either. Plus if your in the surf it jerks you around. If you decide to hunt the shore, now what are ya going to do with the sifter. I haven't used a sifter in almost thirty years.

Re: My beach isn't safe!

That is one reason why I wear Reef Boots while TH'ing or any kind of wading. Nails, >:(broken glass, even a broken clam shell will slice you if you step on it wrong. And they give you a little protection if you step on a small stingray and it trys to bury its barb into your ankle. Bass Pro sells a good Reef Boot for about $20.00 and its well worth the price. ;D ;)
