so i took a risky gamble on trying to dig my 1st privy today.. 90 sumthing deg did not stop me.. took a shot in the dark on were to dig but after a foot i found the glass button.. so i went to town and made the hole bigger. was not the privy but more of a trash\burn pit.. but all the sweat and work was all worth it, as soon as the 1st bottle came up. the rush u get that ur on to the treasure is just like digging old silver!! so i hit er hard, and cleared a 4 foot round 4 foot deep area by the time i was sure nothing else was there.. did find a few moments to swing also 1939 Wheat, horse stuff, lipstick tube.. i am beat :violent1: any body see a ink well like the one i found?? ( if that is what it is ) till the next hunt, and best to all!! MR TUFF

I find an occasional bottle but noting like those! very nice!

Looks like a fun day! I've seen similar inkwells in antique shops here with "circa 18**" dates. Seems no two shops can agree on them, prices running from 20 bucks up. I know that's not really helpful info, but others probably know more than me.

Nice haul though, you got some really cool bottles for your efforts :icon_thumleft:

Nice digs Mr. T.!
I always enjoy reading about the great stuff you find.
Keep on hunting!!!
:hello2:

Ooops almost missed this post, Sorry. The Magnetic Ointments we find occasionaly in older pits. Say 1880 or earlier. The St. Jakobs OEL( wrong spelling) is huge, as in size. Most of the ones we find are quite a bit smaller. The toppers are neat as well. The flat one should have went on a whiskey(tooled topper) and the round one may have went on a utilitarian bottle as you have pictured. The find of the day is the clay ink as far as I am concerned. Not a ton of $$$ but a real neat find and one that dates the pit to the 1870's. Albeit a trash pit I would hammer that area close by and find the privy, you may see some pontiled stuff there. Congrats on the finds and let me know what else ya get out of there!! jgas

Hey you did really well digging your first pit Mr T! :notworthy:

Love the look of those square sided bottles and the stoneware ink pot! :icon_thumright:

If that's just a trash pit, then you need to find the privy! The clay inkwell is an excellent find. I've wanted to dig one of those for a while now.

Well done.
