mxt

Probably condisering IHs were made out of a bronze composite and the others were more copper. I'm no expert but that is what I think I remember about those coins.

On my XLT and DFX IH's come up in the screwtop/penny range. 57 would be perfect. Modern pennies are more often in the penny/dime 70-80's. Im not an expert by any means, but Ive found , maybe 4 IH's in the last few years. Hope this helps. Hh dave.

some will be 55 -57 screwcap,, some old fat ones as pulltab, some zink penny,, if ya can, get all types to practice with....

I swing an MXT, and injuns can come up in a large range. Ideally, 57-62ish. But deeper ones, especially with environmental damage, IE fertilizer issues, can sometimes read as low as 35, and be a "scratchy/iffy" target. It just adds merit to the old addage, "Dig Everything!".......

Try and not get hung up on the numbers, they are not always spot on, several things can alter them. I got an odd vdi number of 50 this week but it sounded strange. I sweep it several directions and decided to check it out. It was several dimes and nickles stacked together. I tried to duplicate the signal after retrieval. I got close to that # by laying them on edge. Latter on I got a #94 and was sure I had a halve or a dollar. It was two quarters together. I run mine on Relic with the trigger forward, I like the crisp, sharp signal. It makes me stop and have a look-see.

So some coin hunts will use in relic mode ? when i start up the unit it sounds fine I pump the ground a few times ,then ready to go . but what happens it is making cracking noise gain is 8 to 9 with a slight hum on the threshold but still cracking ,but when i search i constantly get reading all over the place iron , hot rock foil you name it is comes up , from the first swing .I tried it in 3 different place and beach and park . (also ground track lock and salt )i can understand junk in these place but every swing every single swing . very annoying to the point 10 min in to the hunt i want to leave .I also have a 5900 di 20 years old and no noise till a target ,the reason i change the 5900 is it is to heavy .I paid a lot i just hope there is a way to adjust ing it . Can the lop be to big? I REALLY DON'T WANT TO BUY ANYTHING ELSE TILL I START ENJOYING IT . thanks

I've been using an MXT since June. Not my first detector by any means. My first outing I had experiences much like you mention. Mine came with 2 smaller coils so I changed to the 4X6 shooter coil and the difference was like night and day. That coil slips thru heavy trash very well and I began to separate the good targets from the junk easily. Have since used the MXT in several areas full of melted aluminum cans from camp fires. Unfortunately those melted chunks of aluminum give great, strong signals and mostly ID as coins and if you kick the discrimination up to avoid them you lose all nickels and most jewelry, so patience and digging everything is the word. The MXT is a very good machine overall so stay with it and learn it. You will find that with time and use you can hear and recognize when some of those signals are the real thing and when they're not. The target ID on any machine is just a best estimate. Learn the sounds as well and your recovery of goodies will improve.
Happy Hunting,
Bill
