Right now I'm searching a creek bed close to wear I live. It runs right through the heart of town. Its also close to a railroad bed.. So as you can imagine the readings I get(maybe its just me) is off the charts.. Some of the creek bed is now dry because of a flood project something or other and the water goes out around those now dry rock, coal & dirt spots.. I have been searching in and out of the water.. Apparently just from what I found, everyone and their great grandmother threw stuff, at one time or another, in this creek. Alot of stuff is definitly from the railroad. Does anyone have any suggestions for settings that I may find to work better than what Im doing now.. Would it be better for me to use the relic hunting settings verses the coin & jewelry.. ? The pic below isn't the area I have been metal detecting. Its up the creek f urther .My nieces and I walked the creek and I snapped the pic.. Thanks guys.. :D

Some say they get better depth with the relic mode. I have never noticed a difference. I don't use the relic mode, because I get tired of the grunt sound really fast. Are you getting a good ground balance over clean ground? Are you getting a lot of hits. If you are try turning your sensitivity down. Keep going down until it becomes more stable. I have hunted as low as 5 on mine. Turn up your discrimination. Lock your trigger forward. And if you are still having problems you can always move the switch to lock once you get a good ground balance. Let me know if you have any more questions and I will try my best to help you out. Good luck and looking forward to seeing some finds.
