mxt , lithium or alkline batts?

k, i used to own a mxt and always used lithium batts, i sold it, and now i got a new one, the instructions say use alkline batts...... so which give the best performance lithium give me a power check of 14 when first installed.

If the manual suggests alkalines, I would use them...money hard earned spent on a machine to run the risk of causing damage by applying too much voltage.

Buy Duracells...Energizers suck.

The power usage of Lithium batteries is different. I've never tried them in a Whites machine, but all the others become unstable.

I get my batteries from Costco where I get the best price for the Kirland Batteries. I think Duracell makes them but aren't sure. All I know is they last.

I have had great results with the Lits, with no apparant problems. They last 2-3 times longer than alkies. Just my 2 cents. HH and Good Luck....."Oro"

The manual for the Explorer says you CANT use Lithium batteries because they produce a combined voltage ABOVE 13V. There are some new batteries on the market that i recently read about that were rechargeables, Sony's i think. They were made for camera's and you can drain them and they keep rechargeing. Supposed to be the NEW thing.

If I remember right the MXT will run untill it gets to 8 volts. I use the new Eneloop Nimh low self discharge AA batteries by Sanyo. As you may know the problem, until now, with Nimh batteries is that they will self drain sitting on the shelf after a couple of months. The Eneloop batteries are tested by Sanyo to still have 85 % of one charge after sitting on the shelf for one year. The ones I have in my MXT show 10V on every battery test after being in the machine for a few months. I also have them in my explorer xs and they are performng admarably.
When they come out with them in 9v I will use the in my 1977 VLF TR that still works like new.

Are your Sanyo batteries RECHARAGEABLE? If so where are you getting them?

Breville , your mxt shouldnt be sitting that long...............its abuse

yeah, mines still kickin butt, ive gone out about 15 times now, and still good power, and some great finds

I use Sanyo or Panasonic, both work very well. I rack a lot of hrs up on my MXT, so I get them from the local 99 Cents Store. Yes the 99 Cents Store, and I still get 40 to 50 hrs out of my battery pack.

I've been using NiMh batteries for several years in my XLT & DFX. If you get some with a high mAh rating they last a long time. I had put some away in the battery pack for the winter & checked them for voltage this spring & they still read 10.2V. I topped them off (something you couldn't do with NiCads) before I went hunting anyhow.

The NiMh pack I have in my DFX are reading 10.4 V after 2 weeks of fairly hard detecting, going out 5 days a week or so.

Rechargeable lithiums sound interesting. That seems to be the newest technology. Maybe last the whole season on a single charge?

I never could see throwing batteries away after they're depleted no matter how long they last in the detector.
Granted any rechargeable won't last as long but that's what I have spare packs for. A good slow overnight charge & they're ready to be put to work again.

I switched to lithium in my DFX about 2 months ago, when my rechargeable drains I switch to the lithiums, no problems, first set of lithiums still has 11.4 volts
