The MXT is an awesome detector the 300 just stands for the coil it came with, I really didn't care for that coil though and don't have one anymore. HH

I second that!!! The MXT is way better than that APT IMO.

I disagree! The only thing the MXT did better than my ATP was on raw depth on planted targets. In real world field test, the ATP finds em just as deep as my MXT Pro ever did.
While I still think the MXT was/is a great machine I prefer the ATP. I have about equal time on each machine now and the ATP has turned up way more silver and gold than the my MXTP ever did. Not to say the MXTP missed or couldn't find it, just that I've dug more with the ATP. ATP is WAY better on bottle caps Period! Always thought the MXTP was a cap magnet.
The Whites is the much better built and laid out unit but performance wise I don't see it. Probably why I no longer own it.

Would like some input from whites users on the MXT 300, I just bought a new garrett atpro. Got an offer to trade for an MXt 300, but all I have read are poor reviews for this detector. If I change coils could I change some of this poor operation or is the 300 just a bad detector?? Please help
. Thank all, think I'm gonna give her a go and take the MXT, I appreciate the input !!

With the D2 coil the MXT is every bit as deep as the V3i or E-trac, I try and run +2 gain but in high EMI area's you might not always want to run that hot as too much noise and you won't hear those really deep whisper targets. HH

You're going to love that MXT! See if you can find Jeff Foster's book to go along with it.

thanx, it comes with the book and DVD

Sorry Fella. I didn't have my coffee when I posted. Only thing I like about the ATP is the weight and the iron audio. At least mine is stable now unlike the first two. I should take it out more.

I just have had different experience with my ATP than you.
I feel I got a good machine right off the bat. I'm still amazed at what it can do when comparing to other machines I own or have owned. It's still 99% as good as anything else I've swung.
You have had some problems with your first two and that lead to confidence issues with it. I can totally understand that as I had similar issues with my Deus. Just hard to trust something that gave you problems in the past.

To the OP, good luck on your trade. The MXT is a great machine, but you may want to look into a different coil. I'm sure the 300 has its place but as a general purpose coil, there are better options. Like Wingmaster mentioned, the D2 is a great coil. Deep & easy to PP with. It is prone to emi and can be a touch weighty but not what I'd call bad or heavy.
Whites 6x10dd is what the machine was designed around and is a great coil. It'll give up a little bit of depth to the D2 but does everything else better. Better ID, less prone to emi, much lighter for better balance & much smoother all around than the D2. SEF coils get a lot of good reviews too. I've never used one so I can't comment but I hear good things!

. Every individual ,... Of course are different, and some people prefer Harley's to Hondas, and I like Harley's ....ok a shitty analogy,,.. But thanx for the input.

well, my atpro checked out and I have 9.5 out of 10 MXT 300 on the way, can't wait to tell you what I think. Alls I know is my minelab 305 kicked the "pros" ass. So it had to go, there's also something about that trigger on the mxt that I love.its always kinda awkward to push a button to pinpoint, great design.

to all who responded to the thread thank you, I received the mxt and I love it, the way it operates, balanced well, 2 x lbs doesn't bother me. It's a great detector, that just feels well built !!

Glad to hear you like it, be sure to post some pictures of you finds so we all can see how much fun you are having with it. Thanks again!

by the way,.. I wouldn't trade the mxt for anything. Been detecting for 3 years, at least once a week and this is the best machine by far, had minelab, fisher and Garrett's .
