Hey everyone I dug this odd piece of iron and was wondering what it could be. I am inclined to think it’s a broken crude triggerguard on account of its shape and due to the fact I found a gunflint and melted lead near it. Though I suppose it could be a drawer pull or just a piece of junk/mangled square nail. I found a flat button as well. I would be interested to hear y’alls opinions. Thanks! Unfortunately I don’t believe it’s part of a trigger guard.

If it is a trigger guard looks kinda small for a musket?

looks like a staple to me , used for attaching pipe or conduit to wood.

looks like an old staple that would have been used to mend a cracked board. definitely not a trigger guard though

Wagon staple. I found an item just like it. On a positive note, it is pre-1900, so may be more there.

Looks like could have brass in some pics but if iron I may suggest a flint striker to make fires?

I like the thought of a wagon staple. I have one or two from CW sites, which are identical.

Thanks y’all for the replies. Any old piece of iron is welcome in my book.
