Just needed a little help on this one--is it what I think it is? (I know it's been bent by the plow)

Thanks for your photos, dirtdiva. Trigger guard was my first gut feeling when I dug it, but I just wanted to be sure.

Excellent acorn guard you posted.

Thanks, Monty.

Anyone have an idea on a *rough* time frame for the piece?

I think it's a bent finger loop from a chamberstick (candle holder).

I trust your ID skills, DCMatt... I'm gonna look for some examples with designs on them.

Triggerguard, but definitely not for a musket, probably a rifle. Most likely time frame would be 1820's through 1850's.

Excellent. That's the date range for the other items I found at the site, too.

Thank you for your reply, l.cutler. :)

I agree it's a tough call...wowzers. It looks like it could be either candlestick Or musket piece...

I AM 100% certain that your first link has positively ID'ed a pewter whatzit my buddy found earlier this fall :

I guess I could go either way on this one... We did return to the site and found an Eagle Button there. Very little in the way of housesite items...mainly buttons, coins, and items with more of a military association. Found a spur there as well.
