Found on an old road bed, in a thick wooded area, older area.
I scrubbed off some of the patina trying to get the details to show.
It is lead, not magnetic.
New photos, hopefully will help.
Thank you,

Jmho, Old marble shooter, but think it's a "cochonnet" (pronounce co-cho-net) or "piglet" and was used in a french game called "Petanque" (pronounce Pa-tank). You could also see it as the "Summer version" of curling, lol. Usually the piglet is red, this one has the pattern we see on the ball used by players. Just Google Image "petanque".

Just for a visual reference, I borrowed this image of a woman holding a petanque ball. As you can see petanque balls are much larger than the roughly 1/2 inch ball posted by JccEldreth. To me it almost looks like it was a lead or possibly pewter ball wrapped in a wire mesh, perhaps for jewelry (?), which might explain the iron oxide looking stains.

It was almost completely brown when I found it. I think it was just woods growth, it came off easy after I boiled it for 30 minutes in water. No holes for a wire. I just don't know. I thought maybe it was trench art from the civil war area, who knows...

There's a petanque ball in that picture? Totally missed it!
